Ayurveda, the science of life has great wisdom about health, lifestyle and the harmony of everything. This body of knowledge of well-being originated in the Indian subcontinent and is recorded in the Vedas, which are among the oldest surviving writings of mankind.
You will learn how spices and herbs have different effects on the body and mind, how to choose food that is good for you, and how lifestyle and exercise suit everyone. Because we are all unique and the same among others is poison.
In Ayurveda, the emphasis is on prevention – how to keep the body healthy, but there are also detailed descriptions of various diseases and symptoms, and information is given on treatment.
Emphasis is placed on nutrition, exercise, supplements, herbs, exercise, breathing exercises, meditation and more that affect health and well-being.
Ayurveda relies on many methods to achieve balance in the body and maintain good health, e.g. diet—lifestyle, working with the body clock, herbs, exercise, breathing, meditation, and surgery—the oldest known surgical manual in the Ayurvedic text known as the Sushruta Samhita.
The philosophy behind Ayurveda is based on the five elemental forces and the three imbalances.
The body is built with the five primary forces, Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth, but the activity is controlled by the three types of imbalances: Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
Mind and spirit affect the functioning of the body and the body affects the mind.
The five elemental forces appear in all living and dead things. According to each person’s innate body type – PRAKRTI – we can know which food and lifestyle are suitable for that person to stay balanced and in good health. No two people are the same, so what type of food and lifestyle is right for each time is different. Thus, cold baths and a keto diet are not suitable for everyone, nor are regular chilli dishes and hot yoga suitable.
In Western nutrition, the focus is on the ingredients protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and recently added antioxidants. But in Ayurveda, we go even deeper into the composition of the food, and the five primary forces and the six tastes play a key role in determining how the food is suitable for each person.
First, Ayurveda recognises that each person has their own unique body type and body function, as well as having their unique mind type. Consequently, instead of working on the assumption that everyone’s bodily functions work the same way, Ayurveda is individualised. You can never say that this or that herb or food works in the same way for everyone or that specific exercises or lifestyles work in a certain way and in the same way for everyone. Second, Ayurveda does not limit itself to the body but considers all dimensions of the individual, including the emotions, thoughts, behaviour, body type, family, society, environment, nature and cosmic elements such as the positions of the planets.
